Dear Friend, The 2020 National Catholic Prayer Breakfast (NCPB) will be streamed online on September 23rd. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) announced that the event will honor Attorney General William Barr. Barr is scheduled to receive the Christifideles Laici award, which is intended to honor laity who promote the Catholic Church’s mission in their life and work. William Barr is a killer. Single-handedly he reinstated the federal death penalty. Mr. Barr ordered the execution of five men in the past two months, some with credible claims of innocence; some with mental illness; some with unfinished appeals. Ironically, two more men are scheduled to be killed on September 22nd and September 24th. Their executions will book-end the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast and Mr. Barr's award. Why is the USCCB honoring Mr. Barr? Death Penalty Focus created this petition drive to urge the President of the USCCB, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, to rescind the nomination of Attorney General Barr, for the Christifideles Laici award. Please sign our petition. Please forward this email to friends, family, and colleagues, and ask them to sign the petition too. I will notify you personally when the petition is delivered to Archbishop Gomez. Thank you for honoring life. |
